Upcoming Events:  

 

On Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., the library will host the free program, “Anime Club.” Do you like anime and manga? Longtime fans and curious newcomers are invited to watch anime, talk to other fans, create themed crafts, and enjoy snacks! At Warren Civic Center Library. Registration required; call 586-751-0770 to register.

12:00 – 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 DIA Away: Think Like an Artist is a mobile, interactive museum and creative space for all ages! Presented by the Detroit Institute of Arts, this 53-foot expandable trailer has digital and hands-on stations to explore. No registration is required for this drop-in program. All ages welcome! The DIA Away trailer will park in front of the Civic Center.

Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. celebrate all things Moana! We’ll have music and dancing from the animated film along with crafts and other fun activities. Civic Center Library. Registration required; call 586-751-0770 Ages 3 to 11.

Children of all ages are invited to join us every Wednesday and Thursday through August 30 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for a free lunch and an activity. Lunches are provided only to children younger than 18. Adults are not eligible to receive lunches. Food cannot be removed from building. Lunches will not be served on July 4 or 5, 2018. This program will be held in Atrium inside Warren City Hall.

“Summer Reading Closing Party Magic Show” 2:00 pm Saturday, July 28, 2018 Magician Jeff Wawrzaszaek will amaze and entertain with his library magic show! “Animal Sounds Rock” 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 The Lake St. Clair Nature Center will teach children about different animals and the sounds they make. Children will make some crafts to imitate animal sounds and join in a rockin’ animal song band. At the Civic Center Library. Registration required; call 586-751-0770. Ages 3 to 11.

Books, Brew, & Banter will meet on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, 7:30 pm, at DRAGONMEAD MICROBREWERY. Our book for July is The Marsh King's Daughter by Karen Dionne. Registration is required for this event so we can make sure to have enough seats. You may register online at www.warrenlibrary.net or call 586.751.5377 to register or ask questions.

Families are in encouraged to come out to the Miller Library on Thursday, July 19, from 6-7 pm for an exciting evening of comedy and magic! Comedian and magician, Doug Scheer will entertain and provide plenty of laughs with his super fun magic show about a “Magic Bookshelf”. Recommended for ages 4-12. Tween and teens are welcome to stop by the Miller Library on Tuesday, July 24, from 6:30-7:30 pm to create their own secret identity, crack a couple coded clues at the library, test their observational skills, and navigate a “laser” beam maze and “minefield”. Play and learn Groups. From  Leaps & Bounds Family Services. Held every Tuesday at the Kennedy Early Childhood Center, 11333 Kaltz, Warren 48089. From April 10, 2018 to November 12, 2018 11 am - 12:30. These free groups help young children learn their colors and numbers through play. Art activities and music and movement are all designed to help children learn while providing ideas and supports to parents and caregivers. Every Monday and Wednesday the Warren Civic Center Library will host the free program “PAWS to Read” with a visit from local therapy dogs.

    The Village Commission meets the first Thursday of the month at the Old Village Hall at Beebe and Flynn St. at 7 p.m. The commission is looking for members. If you are interested, call the Mayor's office for a form at (586) 574-4520.
  • The Friends of the Library Book Store
    Located at 5961 Beebe St., The Friends of the Library Book Store is now open for business! The store will be open from 9 a.m. - Noon on the following dates: January 8, 15, 16, 22 and 29, February 5, 12, 19, 20 and 26, and March 4, 11, 18, 19 and 25.   • Southeast Michigan Chapter of Wild Ones
    The S.E. Michigan chapter of 'Wild Ones' meets the third Wednesday of each month in conference room 'B' room, 504 upstairs at the Community Center at 7 p.m. We are advocates of native plants, habitat restoration and green ecology.   • Warren Kiwanis Aktion Club
    Come and join us on the second and last Wednesday of the month; 6- 7 p.m., in Conference Room B (upstairs) in the Warren Community Center (5460 Arden). Aktion Club is a group of mentally or physically impaired young adults (18 years and older) and their caregivers who would like to give back to their community through helping others.   • The Warren Police Department now has a Permanent Disposal Site for Prescription Drugs at 29900 Civic Center Drive, Warren, 48093; (586) 574-4700. Please note that prescription drugs should be put in a sealable plastic bag and liquids & sharps (needles & syringes) are NOT accepted.

  • FREE Community Supper the First Wednesday of Every Month
    FREE supper is open to everyone and will include main entree, salad dessert and beverage. If you need to stretch your budget, want an evening of fellowship or simply don't feel like cooking, come join us the first Wednesday of every month. The dinners go from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 31654 Mound Rd., Warren, MI.
  • Great Lakes Caring: Compassionate Volunteers Needed!
    Volunteer opportunities with Great Lakes Caring Hospice include: providing companionship to hospice patients; offering pet hterapy (pet training required); assisting with clerical work in our office; sharing your talents (such as music, art, and crafts); providing bereavement or vigil support for patients' families; attending and helping with our Tea to Remember events; interviewing and recording patients with our Life Stories program; and more! We offer: placement in your area; local training; flexible scheduling; opportunities to anyone 17 years of age or older.   • Check Out New Volunteer Opportunities on the "Frontline"
    The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program invites seniors age 55 and older to "just do it"- make the call that can get you connected and change your life. If you have just a few hours a month, you can make life better right where you live. Change young lives by tutoring ormentoring students; help local nonprofit agencies; work in a community garden; get onboard as a hospital volunteer; or help a neighbor to continue to live independently with handyman skills.   • Foster and Adoptive Families Needed
    Methodist Children's Home Society is recruiting foster homes within Macomb County so children who reside in that area can continue to reside there and within the school district once they are placed within foster care.
