About Parks and Rec
The Warren Parks and Recreation Department offers year-round recreation programs.
The department has indoor facilities at Owen Jax Recreation Center, Stilwell Manor, and the Warren Community Center. Every center offers a variety of activities for children, adults and senior citizens.
The 18,500 sq. ft. Owen Jax Recreation Center is equipped with a gymnasium and a large multipurpose room used for a variety of activities, such as, Teen Dances, sports related meetings, senior card games, County Sponsored Nutrition Luncheons, and Senior Country Night. It also serves as an after school teen center for Warren residents, 18 years old and under.
Stilwell Manor is a Senior Citizen Activity Center connected to a Senior Housing Center for low income senior residents. This center features a large multipurpose room used for cards, social gatherings, Bridge and board games, exercise classes, Band practices and concerts, arts and crafts, dinner-dance parties, and pool tournaments.
The Warren Community Center has a great deal of amenities for the whole family. They include: Three gymnasiums with indoor shuffleboard courts, indoor batting cages, a senior center with banquet facilities, and multi-purpose rooms, a library, coffee shop, historical museum, fitness center, aquatic center, and performing arts center. Not only is this center the home of the Parks and Recreation Offices, but it is also home to City Offices, such as, the Communications Department, and Commissions Offices. This is definitely the place for “One Stop Leisure Shopping.”
The City of Warren is gifted with twenty-five (25) City parks. While the land acreage may not meet the needs of the community, the locations of the 25 parks play a vital role in the community, especially since numerous schools have closed in the past twenty-five years. The Warren Community Center has 48 acres of land that increased the total park land to 325 acres. Many of the park features include: picnic areas, shelters, electricity, restrooms, play structures, walking paths, ball fields, soccer fields, volleyball courts, basketball courts, tennis courts, roller hockey rink, and horseshoe pits. Special features include: natural wildflower meadow, fitness course, and natural ice rinks.
The department also offers ice skating at City Square Ice Rink in the months of November – March. In the warmer months, stop by City Square to enjoy the dancing, coloful waterfountains. Also held at City Square from May – October is the Farmer’s Market. The market is open every Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome!
The Parks and Recreation Department not only offers recreation activities, but it also provides a transportation service to senior citizens and disabled persons. This service, which can be used for medical appointments, hair appointments, shopping, and transportation to one of our recreation centers is available to any Warren or Center Line resident who is 55 years of age or older or handicap. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. All trips must be scheduled through a dispatcher at least three days in advance. The van/bus will pick customers up from home and will drop them off at home.
