You can also register to vote at any Secretary of State Office, the City Clerk’s Office, or by mail. Call us to receive a self-mailer registration form. After completing the form, mail it to the above address.

Election & Voting Information.

On Election Day the polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

On the Saturday prior to Election Day ONLY the City Clerks office is open from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm for absentee ballot requests.

The City Clerk is elected by the citizens for a four-year term. The Clerk is custodian of most papers, documents and records which pertain to the City of Warren. The Clerk certifies by signature all Ordinances, Resolutions and other actions of the City Council of which a public record is kept and made available. The Clerk is also an ex-officio member of the Police and Fire Civil Service Commission. The Clerk is further required to administer any oath required for Municipal purposes and issues such licenses and permits as required by the Ordinances of the City of Warren. As the Chief Election Officer of the City, the City Clerk administers all Federal, State, School and Local Elections.

Michigan law requires that a new application be completed for each election for which an absentee ballot is needed. If you have not received your application, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (586) 574-4557.

Absent Voter Applications resemble an oversized post card. Be sure to sign the card, fold it in half, attach postage stamp where indicated, and return it to the City Clerk’s Office. Registered voters who wish to receive an Absent Voter Ballot may request an application by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at (586) 574-4557; visiting the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, or by clicking on the top of this page to print an Absentee Voter Application (PDF).

For Permanent Ballot List

Voters can complete a single AV application to receive an AV ballot in all future elections. This is required for all jurisdictions and all elections. According to the BOE, permanent AV status moves with the voter when they update their registration address within the state, including across jurisdictions. Voters are removed from the list upon request, with cancellation of voter registration, with reliable information that the voter has moved from the registration address, or if the voter has not voted for six years.

Allow any registered elector to become a permanent mail ballot voter by filling out a single absent voter application to receive absent voter ballots for every future election.

As part of the passage of Proposal 22-2 in 2022, the permanent absentee BALLOT List allows the Clerk to send voter an absentee ballot prior to each election. Voter will NOT receive an application for the ballot—just the ballot when they become available.

It is the responsibility of voters to notify the Clerk’s office if they are going to be vacationing or at a temporary different address, two months prior to an election, and give the temporary ballot mailing address to be used.

Proposal 22-2 was passed at the election of November 8, 2022. This allows registered voters in-person voting for each statewide and federal election at an early voting site prior to election day. For statewide and federal elections, the early voting site shall be open for at least nine (9) consecutive days beginning on the second Saturday before the election and ending on the Sunday before the election, for at least eight (8) hours each day.
