Warren Fire Department Recognized for Prompt Treatment of Heart Attack Victims

Full Press Release

The Warren Fire Department received an award from the American Heart Association for the treatment of STEMI (heart attack) patients.

The Silver Award was given to the department for recognition, treatment and prompt transport of patients who are having a confirmed heart attack. The Warren Fire Department was one of two agencies in Michigan to receive this award for 2013. The other agency is in Midland, Michigan.

Warren Paramedics treated and transported thirty patients to St. John’s Macomb Hospital with actual confirmed heart attacks in progress. With identification, treatment, and transmission of EKG
information to the hospital, the patients were transported directly to the heart cauterization lab where the blockage causing the heart attack was opened and resulting damage to the heart was
minimized.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts praised the Fire Department paramedics and Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams for “their dedication to saving lives.”
