What is the Commission on Disabilities?

The Commission consists of six members appointed by the Mayor, at least three of whom shall be persons covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended. The members shall serve one-year terms and may be re-appointed for any number of terms.

It is the policy of the City of Warren to make city buildings, facilities and services accessible to all citizens. The policy may only be effectively achieved by ensuring that persons with disabilities are provided with full inclusion to the city services and buildings. The commission is created for the purpose of addressing matters within the city affecting persons with disabilities and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended.

The Commission on Disabilities was created on March 1, 2001.

What is the purpose of the Commission on Disabilities?

The primary objective of the Commission is to advise the Mayor and City Council on the development of programs and practices that will improve the access to city services and facilities for people with disabilities, encourage and promote better communication and a greater understanding of people with disabilities in the community and with city employees, boards, and commissions.

When does the Commission meet?

The Commission on Disabilities meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
