City of Warren Residential Cross Connection Program

Purpose:
To prevent contamination of the public water supply by identifying and eliminating potential cross connections, as required by Michigan Public Act 399.

What is a Cross Connection?
A plumbing arrangement that could allow contaminated water (e.g., sewage, chemicals) to flow backward into your drinking water due to backflow.

What Residents Need to Know:

Required Inspection

  • Mandatory for all homes in Warren (State law).
  • Begins October 2025 and will take several months to complete.
  • Residents will be notified when inspections will take place in their neighborhood.
  • Inspection takes 10–15 minutes.

Who Will Perform Inspections?

  • City of Warren Water Department Customer Service Crews.
  • Crews will be in City vehicles and carry City ID badges.

Inspection Details:

  • Includes interior and exterior of the home.
  • Homeowners must be present.
  • Crews need access to:
    • Front and back yard
    • Inside the home

What You Can Do Before the Inspection:

  • Check your garden hose for a Hose Bibb Vacuum Breaker.
    • These prevent the most common cross connection issue.
    • Can be purchased at local hardware stores.

How to Prepare:

  1. Fill out the Cross Connections Questionnaire
    • Include your phone number.
  2. Return it to:
    • By Mail or Dropbox:
