this year, River Day will be held on Saturday, June 10th. This date coincides with Michigan’s Free Fishing Weekend and Great Lakes & Fresh Water Week, providing a great opportunity to celebrate all that the Clinton River, its Watershed, and Lake St. Clair has to offer.
River Day is designed to inspire appreciation for local waterways of the Clinton River Watershed and Lake St. Clair, through education, stewardship, and recreation events across the watershed. These events include (but are not limited to) nature hikes, bike rides, restoration projects, native plant sales, picnics, canoe trips, kids’ games, art contests, fishing lessons, and more!
Rain Garden Installation Update
This week, CRWC installed four rain gardens in the City of Centerline with help from EGLE and Centerline Staff.
When precipitation falls and moves over impervious surfaces, such as parking lots, it can pick up pollutants and sediments and carry them into our local water systems, including our rivers, lakes, and streams.
These rain gardens, also known as bioretention cells, are an example of green infrastructure. Native plants and underground pretreatment chambers help capture and utilize the water, preventing it from entering the storm sewer system in the first place. This improves water quality, protects our streams and lakes, recharges groundwater, and reduces flood risks.
Native Plant Sale (online pre-sale 6/4/23 thru 6/9/23, pick up on 6/10/23, 9 AM – 1 PM at the CRWC office in Rochester Hills)
