Home | Press Release Archive | WARREN MAYOR JAMES R. FOUTS IN OPPOSITION TO HB 4722 WHICH WOULD INTERFERE WITH THE CITY’S ABILITY TO REGULATE AIRBNB’S
I will be formally contacting members of Warren’s delegation to the state legislature as well as members of the local legislative body including members of the Warren city council to also oppose this irresponsible legislation. I am in strong opposition to HB 4722 under consideration by the Michigan House of Representatives. HB 4722 would eliminate the city’s ability to regulate Airbnb short term vacation rentals and hinder local control over economic activity in the community.
House Bill 4722 undercuts efforts already underway in our city to regulate short term rentals in our community. I hear loud and clear from residents of our community that they want Airbnb rentals regulated, because far too often they have become party houses that disrupted the community. HB 4722 would intrude on the ability of Warren to exercise the control over these homes demanded by our citizens. I will be asking city council to adopt a resolution indicating the strong opposition to this piece of legislation by our community. We have already started taking action our residents have demanded.
Sincerely,
Mayor James R. Fouts
