Government Agency?
Government agencies with an ORI requesting records should still use recordsrequest@warrenpd.org for their inquiries.
You may still make a Freedom of Information request in writing. Our FOIA form is available at the Records Bureau counter or here: Freedom of Information Request (PDF). Your written request can be filled out online and sent to recordsrequest@warrenpd.org or mailed to Warren Police Department, Attention Records, 29900 Civic Center Dr., Warren, MI 48093.
We will need to know what you are requesting, so please be specific (see FOIA request form). Also, please add your name, address, phone number, and email address where you can be contacted, which the report can be sent to. The Police Department is allotted by law 5 business days to contact you and let you know that the information is ready and what the cost will be.”

Gun Permits & Concealed Carry Weapons
Purchasing a Pistol
If an individual is planning to purchase a pistol from a Federal Firearms Licensed (FFL) dealer, or a sporting goods store (Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop, Field and Stream, ect), a License to Purchase a Pistol (LTP) is no longer required. However, a Pistol Sales Record (PSR) will be completed by FFL dealer or sporting goods store. The FFL dealer or store will be responsible for conducting the criminal history and background check instead of the Police Department. You will need to return the MSP copy to the Police Department within 10 days.
License to Purchase a Pistol (LTP)
An individual may apply for an LTP at any police agency in Michigan, regardless of where they live, if they plan on purchasing a pistol from a private seller. You must be at least 18 years old.
To obtain an LTP from the Warren Police Department, you must go to the Records Bureau counter 8:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. Be sure to bring your state-issued ID or driver’s license. To obtain an LTP, you will be obligated to complete an application.
A permit will only be granted once a criminal history inquiry is completed and there are no felony convictions, other state disqualifiers, or criminal matters/cases pending. The permit must be used within 30 days of the date issued. Gun permits must be notarized before the purchase of a pistol can be made. The MSP copy will then need to be returned to the Warren Police Department within 10 days of the date of purchase. It may be sent back by mail or dropped off in the front lobby’s drop-box.
To register a handgun that has been inherited, a purchase permit must be obtained at the Records Bureau.
